Wine Advocate ReviewRated 95
The 1970 Vintage Port is a field blend (that practice changes beginning with the 1983) and the moment when we arrive in the relatively modern era in our vertical this issue. There are no compromises here. This is terrific, focused and beautiful, a wine with tension, complexity, flavor and structure. Tightly wound, it finishes dry and seriously, with still-powerful (but not searing) tannins. The rich, sexy fruit is delectable and the velvety texture makes it sensual as well as sexy. Overall, this is in a pretty good place, but it should have a lot of life left, too. Drink Date 2016-2040. (28th Oct 2016, 227, The Wine Advocate)
