Wine Spectator ReviewRated 91
Vanilla, licorice, dried mint, incense and tar notes offer a fragrant overtone to flavors of black raspberry, blackberry, dried fig and iron. This medium- to full-bodied red is refreshed by lively acidity and structured by lightly chalky tannins. Drink now through 2031.
Wine Tasting Notes
Alto Moncayo Veraton is skillfully produced to showcase the distinctive terroir of the elevated and windy Campo de Borja DO, while also setting a standard for exceptional Old Vine Garnacha worldwide. The grapes used for Veraton come from vines that have aged between 30 to 50 years.
The Alto Moncayo Veraton presents itself as an opaque red-black wine with a scarlet rim. At first, the aroma is closed, but it gradually reveals a combination of minerals and lusciously ripe berries. The wine is deep, rich, and fully matured. Its flavor profile transitions from black fruits like cherries and plums to subtle notes of licorice, molasses, and a touch of cinnamon. With solid tannins, well-balanced acidity, and a lingering finish, this wine offers a truly satisfying experience.
This wine pairs excellently with dishes such as lamb, beef, pork, pasta, and stews. Additionally, it complements cheeses and grilled vegetables, enhancing the dining experience with its rich and complex flavors.Opaque red-black. Scarlet rim. Aroma: Initially closed. The wine opens to an amalgam of minerals and unctuous super-ripe berries. Deep, rich and ripe. Black fruits give way to hints of liquorice, molasses and a hint of cinnamon. Solid tannins and focused acidity with a long finish.
