Wine Enthusiast ReviewRated 92
The bottling is a homage to old-vine Zinfandel—the grapes are indeed wild things. It is concentrated, with aromas of blackberry, blueberry, florals, molasses, black pepper and toasty oak on the nose. The flavors on the palate are ripe black plum, huckleberry coulis and allspice morphing into grilled orange slice, chicory and a dry long, finish. Decant and enjoy with a grilled portobello mushroom burger.
Old Vine Mendocino Zinfandel is truly a gem. Cultivated on the benchlands and slopes of mountains, these vines are over 65 years old. The name "Wild Thing" pays homage to the untamed appearance of the vines and the use of wild yeast during fermentation. Despite the challenges of working with such wild fruit, the end result is truly exceptional. Remember, the quality of what you drink reflects who you are.
Wine Tasting Notes
Notes of black cherry, ripe plum, and raspberry aromas are complemented by a touch of cigar box and vanilla-oak baking spice. Carol Shelton Wild Thing Mendocino Old Vine Zinfandel has a smooth texture on the palate, with a creamy and round mouthfeel, and a long finish filled with luscious jammy fruit flavors.
