Jeb Dunnuck ReviewRated 92+
A slightly bigger wine, the 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Les Choregies has more new leather, peppery garrigue, and loamy soil notes as well as similar red and black fruits. Nicely textured, medium-bodied, and balanced, it has the structure to benefit from short-term bottle age and keep for over a decade. Maturity 2022-2032.
Wine Tasting Notes
Clos de L'Oratoire Des Papes Les Choregies Chateauneuf du Pape exhibits an astonishingly vibrant color, showcasing its predominantly Grenache composition.
The aroma is impressively intricate, featuring hints of cigar box, kirsch, licorice, black olive, and a subtle touch of scrubland herbs like thyme and laurel, which become more pronounced as the wine matures.
The Grenache grape lends the wine an exceptionally velvety texture, before its bold character takes center stage. A delicate tannic structure provides a smooth coating on the palate, while a touch of black pepper and chocolate perfectly complement the Grenache's softness. As the wine ages, it will develop an extraordinary complexity, revealing additional notes of scrubland herbs, chocolate, and truffle.
