Wine Advocate Review
Rated 94+
Grapes for the 2021 Chardonnay Chehalem Mountain Vineyard come from two blocks of vines planted between 2002 and 2007. Winemaking is oxidative to begin, with plenty of air incorporated during fermentation. "We are very oxidative with the juice," Associate Winemaker Hillary Sjolund explains. "It creates longevity later on." Winemaking techniques after primary fermentation are more reductive, although the wine undergoes generous lees stirring. It underwent full malolactic conversion and was matured for 16 months in 50% new French oak. It has alluring aromas of saline, crushed yellow apples and singular tones of stone fruit and vanilla reminiscent of caramelized peaches over ice cream. The medium-bodied palate balances richness and tang, plushness and freshness. It features a silky texture, a perfumed, expansive core of fruit pushed forward by focused acidity, and an alluring touch of texture that extends the finish. Drinking Window 2025-2035.
